What makes our centre special?

Balaclava Road Children’s centre is a beautiful, relaxed centre that has operated for over 45 years, providing early childhood education and care to so many families in the community.

Our environments promote an indoor-outdoor flow that allows children the opportunity to explore both environments throughout the day. Renovations have been carefully done to ensure that the charm of the older building and environment is not lost, creating the home away from home atmosphere.

The nature playground has been incorporated into the main outside playground for all ages to enjoy. The nature playground provides elements of risky play which allows children to challenge themselves with the support of educators. This fosters their developing autonomy as they reach their individual level of comfort.

All children acknowledge the traditional owners of the land where we meet to play and learn.

Our team of passionate, qualified educators and early childhood teachers provide safe, stimulating and nurturing environments that allow children to thrive.

Educators have a key focus on building strong, supportive, and respectful relationships with each child and family as we work together on your child’s learning journey.

Nursery

Our Nursery room provides care for 8 children aged 6 weeks- 2 years. We understand that this is one of the hardest times for families and can be the first time they trust someone to care for their child. We create strong collaborate partnerships with each family to ensure that an individual routine is created for each child. We acknowledge that every family’s home culture is unique.

Toddlers

Our toddler room offers fun, exploration and learning for children aged from 15 months to 3 years. This large indoor / outdoor environment allows for a flexible learning environment as we understand that children learn and thrive in different ways and in different environments.

All our programs are based on the Early Years Learning Framework and are child strength and interest based. We continually collaborate with families about the children’s interests as this forms the foundation of our program.

Junior Kindy

Our Junior Kindy is a wonderful time where children thrive on becoming more responsible for themselves, their environment, and their friendships. Educator’s guide and support children while developing social skills through lots of role play. This program also follows the Early Years Learning Framework.

Each morning the children share special moments they have had recently at home or in the community and interests. This information forms the foundation of our play-based program and is enriched by family input.

Kindy

Miss Robyne our wonderful kindergarten teacher has been with us for over 7 years now. Our kindergarten program runs as an approved Queensland Government program on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays although Robyne continues the program on the remaining days.

We believe that strong social and emotional skills are the foundation that children require in order to overcome challenges in life. We encourage children to identify and articulate how they feel using a range of resources.
